LightWave是由NewTek公司开发的一款专业三维绘图软件。曾经使用Lightwave制作过的最知名的作品是影片《铁达尼号》。

它的诞生大约是在上个世纪80年代末，年轻的程序员Allen Hastings凭着一己之力开发出了Amiga平台上的一个带有建模、动画和简单渲染功能的3D软件，这个软件就是最早的Lightwave的雏形。这时Newtek公司发现了Allen，并且很快将他邀入了公司。因此，Lightwave便一直发展。

原本Lightwave不过是Newtek公司的视频编辑系统VideoToaster销售的附属产品，到了5.0以后则开始独立发展。其后在2001年至2004年间Lightwave内部发生分裂，开发团队（包括Lightwave之父Allen Hastings）成员的离开并开发了新软件Luxology Modo，加上Lightwave体系老化，无力进行大幅度的创新。同时Maya和Softimage xsi的大幅度降价以及Cinema 4D的出现带来竞争。Lightwave的市占率不断被蚕食，甚至传出了Adobe要收购的消息。2009年2月4日，Lightwave发表了全新的版本，有着全新的技术引擎，它们将此版本命名为LightWave CORE。
