工具格（instrumental case, 也叫做第八格）是用来指示名词是主语达成或完成一个行动所凭借或使用的工具或方法。这个名词可以是物理物体也可以是抽象概念。

工具格出现在古英语、格鲁吉亚语、巴斯克语、梵语和波罗的-斯拉夫语言中。工具格/随伴格（comitative case）可论证的存在于土耳其语和其他阿尔泰语言中，还有泰米尔语中。还有乌拉尔语言在可用的地方重新使用位置格（adessive case），或在不可用的地方使用方位格来标示同样的范畴。例如芬兰语kirjoitan kynällä不意味着“我写在笔上”而是意味着“我用笔来写”，即使使用了位置格 -llä。

The instrumental case (abbreviated INS or INSTR; also called the eighth case) is a grammatical case used to indicate that a noun is the instrument or means by or with which the subject achieves or accomplishes an action. The noun may be either a physical object or an abstract concept.
