离子是指原子由于自身或外界的作用而失去或得到一个或几个电子使其达到最外层电子数为8个（如第一层是最外层，则为7个，若是氢离子，则没有外层电子）的稳定结构。这一过程称为电离。电离过程所需或放出的能量称为电离能。
