面条，一种用谷物或豆类的面粉加水和成面团，之后或者压或擀制成片再切或压，或者使用搓、拉、捏等手段，制成条状（或窄或宽，或扁或圆）或小片状，最后经煮、炒、烩、炸而成的一种食品。

中国、阿拉伯及意大利都声称是面条的发源地，但可考的关于面条的最早文本记录是东汉时期的中国。而且在2005年，中国社会科学院考古研究所研究员叶茂林在青海省民和县喇家遗址（约4000年前被地震掩埋）中发现了距今有4000多年历史的面条，长约50厘米，宽0.3厘米，由粟制成，有最早的文本和实物佐证，有可能面条是起源于中国。
