Geronimo

As you just learned, the Pluto container and driver applications must be deployed in Geronimo with a dependency on the sharedlib service.

A Geronimo module is an arbitrary component made up of a set of classes: dependencies, other modules, and a serialized configured state.

A repository is nothing but a directory under your Geronimo installation.

However, it had to do some evolution of its own to fit the needs of Geronimo.

The server is bundled and ready to run from the Geronimo_installation_directory as the server. jar archive.

The Pluto Web site doesn't explain how to install Pluto on Geronimo, but doing so is possible with a bit of tweaking.

Of course, that's for the future when (and, I suppose, if) the OpenEJB 3 branch started at the first of the year becomes part of Geronimo.

If you already use of any of the above open source projects, your learning curve for Geronimo will be significantly shorter.

When a WAR file is deployed with the Geronimo deployer, the deployer looks for a specialized Web module builder to create the configuration.

The Apache Geronimo project provides a model for this technique with its support for dependency injection and inversion of control.

In Geronimo enables you to create specialized versions of Geronimo that contain only the server components you need.

Be prepared to spend some time troubleshooting your setup if you insist on proceeding.

You must, however, make sure that this . jar file is not deployed with the . war file, because it's already in the Geronimo repository.

Innovations like these will allow Geronimo to be much more scalable in a future world as Ajax becomes even more prevalent.

I think this shows an important philosophy at work that is often absent in many of the alternatives to Geronimo.

Maven scripting also lets you automatically deploy your application into a running Geronimo server.

Thus, the mapping information is usually defined in a vendor specific deployment descriptor, such as jonas-web. xml and geronimo-web. xml.

Release 1 . 0 Of Geronimo will support the installation of the server as a system service , allowing it to run without a console .
