Researchers at the Japanese telecom giant NTT DoCoMo are working on a way for you to control your MP3 player with your eyes.

Some telecom execs suspect Apple is trying to gain the upper hand in talks with DoCoMo.

DoCoMo's Mr. Yamada said he expects the number of LTE subscribers to reach 15 million by its fiscal year ending March 2015.

Mobile downloads on the system are expected to be 10 times faster than those on DoCoMo's current third-generation network.

DoCoMo expects to complete testing of a fourth-generation LTE Advanced network by 2015, Mr Yamada says.

The project is a collaboration between Osaka University, the mobile telephone operator NTT DoCoMo and other institutes.

A DoCoMo spokesman would only say that further talks with Apple were possible.

Samsung, meanwhile, has partnered up with Japan's giant telecom operator NTT DoCoMo to sell a smartphone.

So even if DoCoMo's ambitious plan succeeds, operators elsewhere could find it hard to imitate.

Apple has a global sales target of 10m iPhones in the first year and is in talks with carrier NTT DoCoMo to bring the iPhone to Japan.

The P901iTV handsets will be the first that can be used to receive "One-segment" terrestrial digital broadcasts offered by NTT DoCoMo.

NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, and Vodafone KK each provide their own development environment for creating Java applications for their mobile phones.

After Docomo launched a 3G network in 2001, it saw the rest of the world delay launches and adopt a slightly different system.

NTT DoCoMo Inc will launch its next-generation 4G mobile phone network in 2010, the Financial Times reported Monday.

NTT DoCoMo, Japan's biggest wireless carrier, is spending 300 billion yen (US$3. 59 billion) to upgrade its network to LTE over three years.

A year after launching the world's first 3G network, only 0. 3% of DoCoMo's 42. 3 million subscribers have migrated to 3G services.
