If you already have ClearCase LT installed on your workstation, then you might be able to upgrade it to the current version.

All changes to any element in a ClearCase UCM project must be associated with an activity.

If you are trying to effectively use ClearCase for your Java development projects, you must read this book.

If there is no rectangle around a file or folder, like the custom_code folder in Figure 5, means that it has not been added to ClearCase.

Otherwise. ClearCase considers it a new element instead of a new version of an already existing element.

This means ClearCase and ClearQuest have been used to iterate on the artifacts and increment the file versions.

It also allows you to explore the contents of remote ClearCase repositories (VOBs) and select resources to load into a local ClearCase view.

When User2 tries to check in her changes, ClearCase prompts her to perform a merge, so that User2 can resolve the conflicting change.

The lifecycle is also queried using ClearCase environment variables to determine where the build is taking place within the lifecycle.

You can still check out the artifact prior to renaming it, however, if you do not do so, ClearCase will do so automatically.

UCM was developed to make it much easier for people using ClearCase to get started with an effective use model.

At a minimum, your ClearCase administration team needs to establish a stream strategy and stick to it when working with projects.

It can be architected within ClearCase, either as a one-to-one relationship identical to what exists, or modified to suit client needs.

The installation instructions in this section are to help you start the installation process for Rational ClearCase LT.

Many CCRC preferences can influence the control behavior and appearance of the ClearCase operations.

The next section will have information about how CORBA Transformation is integrated with ClearCase.

Before we do that, however, we will explain the concept of a ClearCase view and UCM stream.

The default ClearCase model is for the first check out to be "reserved. "

In their situation, one file location needs to be established to point to a ClearCase VOB.

Due to the default preference shown in Figure 6 above, ClearCase detects the newly created file in the project.

ClearCase is the chronological repository from which one case derives the state of the process and work-products across time.

Note that most of the GDD architecture guidelines are derived at the ClearCase Server level, not the CCRC level.

You can use the information in this article to help plan a migration from VSS to ClearCase (and possibly from ClearCase to UCM).

The deployment strategy is to have the software packages named after baselines in ClearCase.

Note: If you are not using UCM as your target ClearCase setup, then this may be the final step of your migration process.

The merge is now complete and User2 can Check in her changes under ClearCase source control (see Figure 38).

I would certainly set up ClearCase so that I could begin checking artifacts in and out and sharing them with the other members of my team.

ClearCase also maintains a cache of the latest version of each text file, in a pool called the cleartext pool.

Imagine that on this same medium-sized project, I'm using IBM Rational ClearCase as my source code management tool.

From the Rational Software Modeler launchpad program (see Starting the launchpad program), click Rational ClearCase LT.

The only addition to a typical Tivoli deployment scenario is that ClearCase is involved.

Create a new RPT project and place it in a ClearCase view.

In this instance, test_view_vivek is the base ClearCase view by which the component directory is visible.

They are typically longer-lasting than those found in base ClearCase implementations.

If you are currently running the base install of ClearCase, you may at some point consider an upgrade to UCM.

This section provides step-by-step instructions on how to configure our ClearCase environment and our Rational project.

You might want to use Rational ClearCase MultiSite to get faster access to your artifact repositories.

Click the view that you have created, and then click NextSelect the Base ClearCase VOB to specify a location for the shared project.

The ClearCase menu should now be visible in the top menu bar.

To begin, you should review the basic ClearCase objects that you are currently using.

If you re a long-time Rational ClearCase user, you may recognize some pieces of the UCM process in your ClearCase customization.

The chart in Figure 6 illustrates how these Rational ClearCase improvements map to those business values.

In order to make ClearCase use the new element types, you need to expand the default. magic file, as shown in Listing 2.

Also, the clearimport command can not be used in UCM view context , so the import must be performed only in base clearcase view context.

The approach presented here is proven to avoid problems caused by placing selective assets or folders into ClearCase.

In the ClearCase configuration window (Figure 10), select Show All VOBs, navigate to and select the UCM project, and then click OK.

Team members, such as developers who need integrated ClearCase and ClearQuest workflows, use the ClearCase Remote Client.

Library systems such as CMVC, CVS, or Rational ClearCase provide mechanisms to create logical groups of changes or distinct levels.

ClearCase UCM provides a simple but effective way to manage and govern the use of Utility JARs.

Type the URL for the ClearCase Web server that will support the view (Figure 9 shows an example).

You can use Rational ClearCase during development, and it may help the development teams work together.

To access a VOB, you must connect to a ClearCase Web server and work in a ClearCase view.

From the ClearCase view, check out the parent folder to prevent another user from working on the same data at the same time.

You can also choose a different ClearCase Web server to support the view.

This can be done by creating a new ClearCase element type.

The difference is that RAM doesn't capture a reference to the ClearCase files, but just stores the actual files.

You can manage the resultant model by using a source control management system such as ClearCase or CVS.

Then check in the resulting file into your version control system, such as ClearCase.

If ClearCase Remote Client is already installed, check for Updates (the latest version is 6. 14. 9).

For Version 2003. 06. 14 or later, download the CCRC client from your ClearCase server and install it.

UCM does have some policies that include the use of ClearCase triggers.

Chances are you probably have been using directories in your VOB as a folder of some sort in base ClearCase.
