Spratly Islands

Before 1909, Vietnamese sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly islands had not been violated by China and other countries.

There are too many countries that claim for spratly islands! Mongolia and Laos the land lock countries would need as well those islands.

The Philippines invokes its geographical proximity to the Spratly Islands as the main basis of its claim.

After a tussle between Chinese and Vietnamese boats, China demanded that Vietnam halt its exploration for oil around the Spratly Islands.

The Spratly Islands lie in an area thought to be rich in oil and gas. The region also has vital shipping routes.

In October, Vietnamese troops fired upon a Philippine air force plane on reconnaissance in the Spratly Islands.

In May, Chinese warships were accused of harassing a Philippine navy vessel after it ran aground near the Spratly Islands.

China, Vietnam and Taiwan all claim the entire Spratly Islands, with Vietnam occupying most of the disputed islands.

This work aims to examine the process of establishing Vietnamese sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly islands.

Vietnam, Taiwan, China, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei each claim all or a part of the Spratly Islands and the nearby Paracels.

If these Vietnamese are protesting so hard, it can only mean one thing. They are losing the fight for the Spratly islands.

Japan renounces all right, title and claim to the Spratly Islands and to the Paracel Islands.

These spratly islands were, are, and will forever be, part of China.

Chinese and Vietnamese military forces clashed in the Paracel Islands in 1974 and the Spratly Islands in 1988.

The Spratly Islands issue should be resolved peacefully;
