The compiler isn't the only tool that can take advantage of the additional information that static typing provides.

Yet, Scala gives you all the benefits of static typing, a modern object model, functional programming, and an advanced type system.

Static typing has some other advantages that I won't discuss in detail here.

Compilation does more than support static typing, though.

Those more familiar with static typing may say, "Well isn't that just an Interface? "

It turns out that for many, static typing is a crutch that's no different from that ski restraint.

There is a longstanding, spirited debate in the programming community about the relative merits of dynamic vs. static typing.
