RMC

The RMC product comes with a set of out-of-the-box processes, or delivery processes.

However, in many projects, most of the architecture and design of a method can be clearly defined and comprehended directly within RMC.

So far the team has been able to accommodate most requests for improvement, thanks to the flexibility of RMC.

In Part One of this article, I provided you with a general overview of processes in RMC.

As you will see throughout this section, RMC processes support many of these characteristics.

In RMC, a template is created in the guidance folder of a method content package, shown in Figure 8.

a. Most of RMC trucks congregate in a few sites to wait for unloading concrete. It makes traffic chaos and resource idle.

I think I can outsource a lot of the project and save some money; RMC has an estimation feature to help me verify that.

The output of the work performed in RMC is a process that is published as HTML (usually in the form of a Web site).

All content managed in RMC can be published to HTML and deployed to Web servers for distributed usage by all governance stakeholders.

The documented governance processes created with RMC can be published and deployed as Web sites via the corporate intranet.

You could also start from scratch in RMC and not rely on any explicit method definitions that we provide.

RMC provides structure in three areas for the practitioner: productivity, guidance, and personalization.

The most fundamental principle in RMC is the separation of reusable core method content from its application in processes.

RMC helps to author, configure, view, and publish processes, in this case, all of your SOA Governance processes.

In other words, a Method Definition corresponds to the subset of the RMC Library relevant to the method under Construction.

RMC organizes and maintains this roadmap within the process for you.

Figure 4 depicts typical sources for method content, as well as how the method content is represented in RMC.

Finally, the documented processes created with RMC can be published and deployed as Websites.

Almost all of RMC's other concepts are categorized along this separation, as shown in Figure 6 (see farther below).

Defining and using tasks in RMC intentionally has a lot of commonality with how use cases are defined and used in software engineering.

On the right-hand side of Figure 6, you see the concepts used to represent processes in RMC.

These packages also include the Resource Monitoring and Control (RMC) daemon, which communicates with the HMC.

In RMC, a Method Plug-in is a container for Method Packages which, in turn, contains Method Elements and possibly other packages.

RMC provides catalogs of predefined processes for typical project situations that can be adapted to individual needs.

RMC also addresses cross-project concerns at the program, portfolio, and enterprise levels.

Using RMC, organizations can create and manage processes that best fit their business models and principles.

RMC is a content management system that provides a common management structure and look and feel for all process content.

Let's walk through what RMC provides in each of these areas.

Assist the Sales Dept. for quotations of Service work, spare parts or attachments, batteries or RMC contracts.

RMC has all kinds of methods, processes, guidance, and tools, including things to help with the compliance requirements.

Richard can see immediately that the RMC platform supports complex process tailoring.

Although RMC is a powerful process-authoring environment, there are various degrees of authoring and modes of utilizing RMC's capabilities.

However with RMC, for the first time, a process tailoring tool shipping with RUP supports free modification of both these aspects.

You can create several method configurations defining filters on the overall method library in RMC.

Figure 6 shows how the key RMC concepts relate to method content versus process separation.

The fourth section shows how RMC relationships are leveraged for usability purposes.

RMC contains a lot of method and processes content out of the box.

The third section introduces a couple of RMC mechanisms -- variability and configuration -- enabling content reuse and merge.

The three different variability patterns supported by RMC are contribution, extension, and replacement.

The RMC screen capture on the right in Figure 5 shows an example of a process presented as a breakdown structure of nested activities.

This directly relates to the two purposes of RMC described in the previous section.

All the tree browser views you see in the published RMC content are generated based on these categories.

Method element descriptions are completed and reviewed; i. e. , they all reside in RMC.

In RMC, publication is in large part the end goal of the process development.

This structure is based on the RMC physical grouping of elements and is suited for any AOA implementation.

To fully support dynamic AOA weaving, RMC requires an embedded language for declaring process pointcuts.

This concludes our overview of the most common RMC usage scenarios.

The IBM Rational Method Composer (RMC) is a new tool designed to build custom delivery processes.

Rational Method Composer (RMC) provides a unique way to design a customized software development process.

The example shows how a task is rendered into HTML and presented to an RMC user.

The RMC screen capture in Figure 4 shows how such method content elements are organized in tree browsers on the left.

Method content and processes are organized in RMC according to the way they build logical units for useful configurations.

RMC supports you in authoring such guidance elements using form-based editors as depicted in Figure 13.

In RMC, you assign all the roles you need to tasks to clearly define what skills are required to do the work.

There is no reason to create these diagrams outside of RMC.

Now that you have reviewed the RMC method content library, you can create your own method plug-in to build on.

Well, that's about all I can tell you about the process design aspects of using RMC, its plug-ins, and the integrations with RPM.

In RMC, all content is organized using method plug-ins.

In the commercial version of RMC, they can also be deployed as project plan templates for Rational Portfolio Manager.
