RAM disk

The Ext2 filesystem (and for that matter, any filesystem) can be created and mounted onto an embedded device using the concept of Ramdisk.

If I had to explain tmpfs in one breath, I'd say that tmpfs is like a ramdisk, but different.

If you want to run a PageFile off the RamDisk and have set its size to 1650MB as mentioned above follow the next steps.

This file holds a number of things, including a boot loader, a ramdisk image, and a kernel.

Much like embedded booting scenarios, a local disk (floppy or CD-ROM) isn't necessary to boot a kernel and ramdisk root filesystem.

Note that the initial-ramdisk image usually activates LVM only when it detects that the root filesystem is under a VG.

If you plan to have your root filesystem inside an LVM LV, take extra care with the initial-ramdisk image.

The Boot Configuration Data (BCD) format contains two entries that signify a RAMDISK boot.

First, a device object is created to represent the RAMDISK object.

Will then retrieve the kernel and RAMdisk images via TFTP itself.

If you make any changes you have to run mppUpdate to rebuild the ramdisk with the new config file.

Set the box size to 75MB then hit Move folder and point IE to the Cache folder you made on the RamDisk.

The above sequence creates a Ramdisk of 4 MB and fills it with the necessary file utilities.

Like a ramdisk, tmpfs can use your RAM, but it can also use your swap devices for storage.

Now for XP there are 2 versions you can use, I use Ramdisk XP but there is a free beta version that you can use also.

But it is a pity that ramdisk can't save any data without power. It means we can't save any files into it.

In fact you can see the ramdisk in the file tree.
