The only time that WebSphere MQ requires the label to be in a specific format is for the queue manager to locate its own certificate.

The example utilizes a queue and a topic on the queue manager, using the JNDI bindings to switch back and forth between them.

Remove or change the settings and restart the queue manager before defining any other queues that are to have different values.

It must also be named according to the name of the WebSphere MQ queue manager with which the connection will take place.

WebSphere MQ should be already installed on the system, with a queue manager, a request queue, and a reply queue.

Now there is only one instance of the queue manager running, and there would not be any failover if problems arise.

In the case of a CLUSRCVR channel, a blank MCAUSER means that any other queue manager in the cluster can administer the local queue manager.

Note that this acknowledgement is generated by the queue manager, rather than by the destination application.

On the queue manager, this translates to a requirement for an initiation queue for each host on which an agent resides.

On Windows, Solaris, and HP-UX, it is possible to run both the broker queue manager channel and listener in trusted mode.

Acceptance of inbound messages from the source queue manager is handled by an SCA Export with a WebSphere MQ binding type.

If allowed, the queue manager segments a message into a number of smaller messages when it is too large to be sent.

As administrators and developers, we want to think of this channel as a transparent connection to the queue manager, but it is not.

Do not run halinkmqm on the node on which you created the queue manager with hacrtmqm -- it has already been run there.

In production, the trigger monitor would normally be started as a queue manager service and its output would be redirected to log files.

As you might know, all inbound channels run with full authority of the queue manager and thus have access to all queues.

Do not share the same queue manager across components (broker, username server, configuration manager) especially on production environment.

Recall that in this case, an application requires the ability to connect to the queue manager, put a message to a queue, and get a reply.

Typically, I store the output files on this central server in a tree structure with a separate directory for each queue manager.

The unit of work cannot be managed by the queue manager to which the client application is connected.

Sooner or later in the lifetime of a queue manager, there comes a time when access will need to be revoked.

The next topic is how profiles in these classes can be defined to protect a queue manager and its resources.

When using a CCDT to enter connection information, all that is required are the CCDT URL and an optional queue manager name.

You saw earlier that moving name resolution up to the cluster level diminished the role of the queue manager.

It would be much better if access could be granted (reliably) to specific identities sending commands from that remote queue manager.

Most WebSphere MQ best practice documents you find today will not advise you to tie the queue manager name to the physical network.

In this case there is greater separation between the application and queue manager but at the cost of a performance overhead.

Enabling triggering on the queue manager requires definition of two objects and altering the existing command queue, as shown in Listing 2.

The standby queue manager instance periodically checks whether the active queue manager instance is still running.

For the Q Apply control tables, you need the name of the WebSphere MQ queue manager that the Q Apply program uses.

The gateway requires a single instance of a bridge object and a single instance of a WebSphere MQ queue manager proxy object.

Similarly, the persons who administer the queue manager do not necessarily need access to all objects or commands.

The connection factory enables the JMS program to open a connection with a queue manager to send and receive messages.

A failed attempt to forward a message to the unavailable target Queue Manager results in a thrown fault.

This means that they are encrypted even on non-SSL channels, as well as in any of the ephemeral copies the queue manager might make.

It does not need to be present for other parts of the queue manager.

When receiving private messages, it is always the receiving Queue Manager that decrypts the message body.

The port number on which the target WebSphere MQ queue manager is listening for inbound communication requests.

Enabling SSL on the channels does not, in itself, result in a reasonably secure queue manager.

The construct is bound to the source queue manager, as shown in Figure 5.

We now need to create an Alias destination that acts as an alias for a queue hosted by the WebSphere MQ queue manager.

It must match the name, hostname, and port used by the MQ queue manager to send messages to the bus.

This means that there is no process separation between the Fastpath application and the queue manager.

The truststore holds the certificate of a signing certificate authority (CA) for a queue manager you trust.

The queue manager is associated with a single certificate which must be available in the key store.

When a queue manager is configured as the default queue manager, applications can access it without knowing its name.

This is the bare minimum that will restrict administrative access from an adjacent queue manager and is only used here for illustration.

The next step is to generate the new certificate for the local queue manager.

The WebSphere MQ queue manager is completely unaware that it is communicating with a messaging engine.

These would be applied to all non-default channels on the queue manager.

When configuring the additional client authentication, the queue manager certificate store acts as a truststore as well as a keystore.

Queue manager name: set to the name of the remote WebSphere MQ queue manager.

As its name suggests, the trustStore holds the certificate of a signing CA for a Queue Manager you trust.

With this new availability option, active and stand-by instances in a multi-instance queue manager share the same queue manager data.

This is intentional, do not change these. The queue manager will fill in the correct values at run time for you.

The WebSphere MQ link sender channel establishes a connection to a receiver channel on the target WebSphere MQ queue manager.

Only one gateway queue manager can be attached to a transmission queue.

Transfer this file to the server where the coordination queue manager is created and run it against the queue manager.

Ideally, the cluster queue manager will also be tested before bringing applications back online.

Customers of that CA mirror the CRL internally, where it can be checked by the queue manager when the channels start.

On distributed, users in the mqm group are the administrators for both the queue manager, and security for the queue manager.

When these hard limits are reached, the entire queue manager and all connected applications come to a halt.

If the listener port is restarted, it will once again ask the Connection Manager for a connection to the queue manager.

This continues until all the exits have been invoked and the data is then sent to the queue manager or client, as appropriate.

Service: Maps a queue, queue manager, and code set of the messages into the service.

To avoid a single point of failure, it is recommended that you pick another queue manager in the cluster to host a second repository.

So far, we have defined and started a queue manager and created a queue for point-to-point messaging.

This means that, in the default configuration, any queue manager can be administered by any adjacent queue manager.

Each queue in the queue manager is assigned two buffers to hold messages, one for non-persistent messages and one for persistent messages.

Maximum message length can also be defined for a queue manager, a channel, or an individual queue.

If switches disable some type of security, what effect will that have on the security of the queue manager overall?

If the destination queue manager is not available, the messages are not routed to another queue manager in the cluster.

Similar considerations apply to a default queue manager allocated on a Windows system.

All that is required is to place the service under queue manager control and then to start it.

The connection factory provides all of the information that the application needs to connect to the WebSphere MQ queue manager.

It will need to match the name, hostname, and port used by the queue manager to receive messages from the bus.

The common name for queue managers is customarily the queue manager name, followed by the domain in which it resides.

Remote connections to a queue manager typically occur over a channel.

Remove the limits and the queue manager is at much greater risk of exhausting the physical resources.

There is the ability to see which Queue manager has an associated Broker and vice versa.

The dead letter queue is used by the queue manager and Java classes to hold messages that cannot be delivered to their intended destination.

The size of message properties cannot exceed the MaxPropertiesLength setting for a queue manager.

In a traditional WebSphere MQ network using distributed queuing, every queue manager is independent.

Although the MCA channel agent is as trusted as the other internal queue manager components, the MQI channel agent is not.

Just remember that it augments but does not replace the hardening you would ordinarily do at the queue manager.

First, ensure that the JMS Client has access to the CA certificates that are required to authenticate the queue manager.

This is how the queue manager is able to access the key database without human intervention.

WebSphere MQ provides information about errors, warnings, and other significant actions in a queue manager through MQ Events Messaging.

In summary, authentication must be performed locally on the receiving queue manager.

At the command prompt, create and start queue manager QM as described above in Setting up WebSphere MQ for the Debit Credit scenario.

Message Queuing generates report messages whenever a report queue is defined at the source queue manager.

When using persistent messages over WebSphere MQ, increase the buffer sizes and log extent size of the queue manager log.

The order entry application writes the MQ Everyplace message to a remote queue defined in the local queue manager.

When a device comes online, the device queue manager pulls messages from the store-and-forward facility.

The lower-case version of the queue manager name is required for the certificate label.

This section outlines the steps needed to test the high availability of the queue manager, ha. queue. manager.

A third plug-in has the capability of saving queue manager object definitions in a Comma Separated Values (CSV) format.

As noted earlier, users are coming out from behind server applications and connecting to the queue manager directly.

WebSphere MQ Explorer cannot run locally to more than one instance of an MI queue manager.

Despite the problems with queue manager name reuse, most migration plans that I've seen depend on it.

The queue manager automates failover using a combination of file system locks and shared queue manager data and logs.

In all of these cases, the cluster and the applications are in direct competition when they are hosted on the same queue manager.

Secondary log file extents are allocated dynamically by the queue manager when the primary files are exhausted.

The queue manager becomes nothing more than a container that provides life support for destinations.

Regardless of the operating system your queue manager runs on, you should ensure that the performance of logging is efficient.

IDS. DEFAULT. SERVICE is mapped to system default queue manager, queue named IDS. DEFAULT. QUEUE, and default code set.

This will ensure that the trigger monitor is started when the queue manager boots and stopped when the queue manager shuts down.

For the some connections, such as the channel initiator or CICS, only the region itself needs authorization to connect to the queue manager.

In that case a completely different team than the team that administers WebSphere MQ would control security for the queue manager.

When receiving private messages, the receiving Queue Manager always decrypts the message body.

With option 2, MQ_CONNECT_TYPE=FASTPATH must be set in the environment in which the queue manager is started.

Here is an example of a RACF PERMIT command to grant the user ID for the channel initiator permission to connect to queue manager CSQ1.

The active queue manager instance processes messages and accepts connections from applications and other queue managers.

Take over the shared disk used by the queue manager to store the queue files.

If John asserts the identity of Jane Doe, the queue manager accepts it without question, even over an SSL-enabled channel.

ChompQ. pl calls the Q program to delete the messages, and passes it the queue, queue manager, and number of messages to delete.

Update the Queue manager, Port, and Channel to match the secured server connection defined in WebSphere MQ.

This definition change causes the queue manager to publish the changes to the full repositories.

You can also always start a queue manager configured with multiple instances on different servers as a single-instance queue manager.

Set the port property to the listener port of the WebSphere MQ queue manager listener.

Given the trend toward consolidation, this will enable many more applications to share a queue manager.

That assumes the queue manager can be restored in the first place, which is not necessarily guaranteed.

On distributed, the mqm group is used by the queue manager, the queue manager's administrators, and can be used as a default by channels.

The coordination. properties file is located under the Coordination queue manager directory under the root data directory.

Use full UPPERCASE for all objects, including the queue manager, to prevent portability issues in heterogeneous environments.

Obtaining a digital certificate for the SSL server (queue manager) and the SSL Client (JMS client).

Files related to a queue manager are therefore divided between internal and shared disks.

The adjacent queue manager was authorized using a single account in a single group.

Normal practice requires one remote queue definition for every device queue manager.

This enables the queue manager to find the second repository using normal cluster workload management algorithms.

Create channels from the agent queue manager to the coordination queue manager.

WebSphere MQ Client applications connect to the broker queue manager.

In the three-tier architecture, the queue manager knew only the identity of the application.

On the queue manager machine, verify that the queue manager and the listener are started.

Since the queue manager is already running, it is necessary to start the broker manually the first time.

A node running a queue manager must also maintain a number of files on internal disks.

The example begins by connecting to the queue manager and opening a queue handle for output.

You'll create a script to start and stop the WebSphere MQ queue manager and any associated processes.

The command used here does not specify a queue manager name to load.
