Early the next morning Abimelech summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid.

But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, LORD, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?

Meanwhile, Abimelech had come to him from Gerar, with Ahuzzath his personal adviser and Phicol the commander of his forces.

The next day the people of Shechem went out to the fields, and this was reported to Abimelech.

Then Jotham straight away went in flight to Beer, and was living there for fear of his brother abimelech.

So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants ; and they bare children.

And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

So Abimelech got up early in the morning and sent for all his servants and gave them word of these things, and they were full of fear.

But Abimelech said, "I don't know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I heard about it only today. "

And his concubine who was in Shechem also bore him a son, and he called his name Abimelech.

So abimelech and the people with him got up by night, in four bands, to make a surprise attack on Shechem.

Now at that time, abimelech and Phicol, the captain of his army, said to abraham, I see that God is with you in all you do.

And Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them unto Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

God's intervention and Abimelech's response teach an important lesson about faithfulness.

And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What mean these seven ewe lambs which thou hast set by themselves?
