IronRuby

I have had a look very recently at how the IronRuby guys are approaching it, callcc only exists as a comment in their code.

Meanwhile IronRuby, Microsoft's Ruby implementation, is one of the four languages spear-heading the Dynamic Language Runtime.

The community can now make source contributions to any component of IronPython and IronRuby.

Long story short, IronRuby is compatible enough to run your Rails app.

More information about IronRuby can be found on the IronRuby web site and the source code from the demo is available from John Lam's blog.

Even so, it already has a pretty powerful IronRuby code editor and a visual form designer.

Today we are releasing the prototype code for IronRuby Tools for Visual Studio, and we expect similar feedback for IronRuby tools as well.

The goal of this system is to streamline the process, and make it easier for our external contributors to get code into IronRuby.

Will there be an official release of IronRuby that integrates to VS 2008 at all?

Microsoft recently announced they had moved their IronRuby project to GitHub.

As with prior examples, feed this into ir, your IronRuby interpreter.

Ultimately, we plan to offer complete support for IronRuby.

RB: I think everyone wants to know if Ruby on Rails support is a goal for IronRuby.

However, the IronRuby site disclaims, as of 1. 0 these scripts will be deprecated in favour of calling ir with the -S flag.

As stated above, IronRuby is currently very compatible with Ruby 1. 8. 6.

It has been in constant development since that time and is set to have its first release the second half of this year.

After IronRuby 1. 0, the project will switch to 1. 9 support which should then support Rails 3.
