(1928-87) a US artist who was a leading figure in the pop art movement in the 1960s. He painted such familiar objects as Campbell's soup cans and dollar bills (= notes). Another famous picture consisted of several similar images of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol made a number of long films in which very little happened, including Chelsea Girls (1966).
