- a government organization that works to encourage people from abroad to visit the UK and to encourage British people to visit tourist attractions in England. Separate organizations promote Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland within the UK. Among other things, they give different symbols to hotels, etc. to show what standard of accommodation they offer.
