Richard Lovelace

- (1618-58) an English poet. He was one of the 'Cavalier poets' who supported King Charles I during the English Civil War. He was put in prison during the war and wrote some of his finest works there, including the poem To Althea, from Prison, which contains the famous lines: “Stone walls do not a prison makeNor iron bars a cage.”
