- a large rock on the coast of Plymouth, Massachusetts, where the Pilgrim Fathers probably landed in 1620, although there is no proof. In 1774, the rock split while it was being dragged into the town of Plymouth as a symbol of freedom from the British. It is now back in its original position, under a protective roof. Next to it is the Mayflower II, a copy of the Pilgrims' original ship that was sent as a gift from Britain in 1957.
