- Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell (1857-1941) a British soldier who became famous for defending the South African town of Mafeking in the Boer War. He later left the army and started the Boy Scout organization (now called the Scouts or the Scout Association) in 1908 and, with his sister Agnes, the Girl Guides (now called the Guides or, in the US, the Girl Scouts) in 1910.
