John Everett Millais

- (1829-96) one of the original members of the group of British artists known as the Pre-Raphaelites. His most famous paintings include Christ in the House of His Parents (1850), Ophelia (1852) and The Blind Girl (1856), all of which have the realistic detail characteristic of the Pre-Raphaelites. Later in life, he painted more sentimental pictures, such as Bubbles. He was the first painter to be made a baronet, in 1885.
