/ˌhʌklberi ˈfɪn/
- a character created by Mark Twain for his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), who he then made the main character in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885). Huckleberry, called Huck by his friends, is not educated but is an independent and happy boy. The second book is considered one of the greatest American novels. It is about Huck's trip down the Mississippi River with a slave called Jim who has escaped. “But I reckon I got to light out for the territory ahead of the rest, because Aunt Sally she's going to adopt me and sivilize me, and I can't stand it. I been there before.”
