Gregor Mendel, the father of modern genetics, was an Eastern European monk who studied philosophy and physics in college, but later took to experimenting with pea plants in the garden of a monastery.

A town of eastern Massachusetts west-southwest of Boston. It is a residential community and the seat of Wellesley College (established 1870). Population, 26,615.

In 1968, he graduated from the Far Eastern Nautical College and was summoned for active duty in the Navy.
