As he goes on to say, Athanasius appended this letter penned by Eusebius of Caesarea to his treatise;

All the things here discussed agree with that golden passage of Eusebius on the origins of idolatry: that the first people, simple and rough, invented the gods "from terror of present power."
Therefore, since the apostle has spoken thus, let them either anathematize the party of Eusebius who have changed and now say things that are different from those to which they have subscribed;
