This paper gives a survey of development and application of microalloyed engineering steels, including those with ferritic -pearlitic, bainitic, and martensitic structures.

The steels contain more than 0.08 % (mass percent) nitrogen in a ferritic matrix or more than 0.4 % (mass percent) nitrogen with an austenitic matrix were defined as high nitrogen steels.

The major defects which appear easily in ferritic stainless steels, including crack sensibility at room temperature and ridging are introduced.
