Arup was widely involved in three major stadiums for the Beijing Olympics - the dramatic, 91,000-seat National stadium (Bird's Nest), the Fencing Hall and the National Aquatics Centre (Water Cube).

During the Paralympic Games, the 4800-square-meter banquet hall on the first floor of the main part was used as the venue for wheelchair fencing and boccia events.
