Some techniques of compounding bioactive ceramics and polymer biomaterials with mechanical and biological properties and the clinical applications of the composites produced are presented.
In particular, incorporation of bioactive ceramics into polymer matrix is assumed to mimic the composition of natural bone extracellular matrix(ECM), thus can enhance cell growth and response.
Degradable high polymer material can be used for controlled drug delivery systems to embed bioactive agents and drugs for the purpose of controlled release and target delivery.
