Wes had been right about the cold. For about a week it was nice out, noticeably cooler but not too cold. Running in the cool weather was less burdensome than running in the heat and walking to and from work was comfortable. Since moving to Idaho Springs, Charlie had to adjust to the higher altitude. More than a few times on her morning run she'd found herself stopping mid-stride, doubled over, gasping for air that was so thin she felt like she was breathing in nothing at all. It was like drowning without the water. The more air she tried to take in the more she felt like she couldn't breathe. She still hadn't completely adjusted but it wasn't as bad as before and she'd assumed the winter season wouldn't be much different, that she'd only need some minor adjusting.
