SCOUT enrolled more than 10 000 overweight or obese patients with diabetes or a history of coronary or peripheral vascular disease or stroke, along with other CV risk factors.
CV risk factor prevalence and a CV risk prediction chart for Africa were used to estimate the 10-year risk of suffering a fatal or non-fatal CV event among individuals aged 40-64 years.
"Cardioprotective treatment should be initiated when the estimated 10 year CV risk is above the risk threshold for each country, whether 10 or 20%," the guidelines authors conclude.
