Some of it is a lagged effect of the resurgence in worldwide demand for capital goods, which Germany happens to produce.

The fall was more moderate if private orders only are considered, and foreign orders actually rose, but the bottom line is that the domestic demand for capital goods is weakening sharply.

And demand for the sort of exports Germany has done well with, mostly luxury cars and specialist capital goods, tends to be insensitive to shifts in the exchange rate.
