On the basis of the differential geometry, the geometrical theory of machining free form surface by cylindricalcutter in 5-axis NC machine tool is investigated.
This paper presents an algorithm of generating three kinds of tool paths and a formular of calculating tool center paths when machining parts with cylindrical end-milling cutter.
Cylindrical worms are usually worked by formed turning tool or milling cutter. It is inefficient. The tooth shape is difficult to control and the quality is not easy insured.
