A less common but even more severe (often fatal) form of meningococcal disease is meningococcal septicaemia, which is characterized by a hemorrhagic rash and rapid circulatorycollapse.
Excessive diuresis may result in dehydration and reduction in blood volume, with circulatorycollapse and with the possibility of vascular thrombosis and embolism, particularly in elderly patients.
