"Maybe the Earth is trying to tell us something," added McGuire, who is one of the organisers of UCL's ClimateForcing of Geological Hazards conference, which will open on 15 September.

This allows more solar radiation to penetrate the earth's atmosphere, which promotes a climateforcing effect (more short wave radiation reaches the earth, warming land and sea-surface temps).
