"Swearing always has to be used very tactfully, because it is a very intense communication," said study co-author Daniel Zimmerman, a staff psychiatrist at a hospital in New York.
The worst part was arguing with the insurance company because he wanted to go to the hospital in Miami and not Fort Lauderdale, and worrying that he couldn't make the co-payments on his treatment.
"When these papers came out, they really turned everything on its head," says Stephen Scherer, a geneticist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and a co-author of one of the papers.
