China hinted last week that it is now willing to allow its currency to appreciate in value against other world currencies and, most relevantly, the US dollar.

Mr Geithner's hosts should make it clear that even if the dollar continues its slide against other currencies, the yuan will not follow suit. Instead it will gradually appreciate.
