"I'm home," Asrai called up the stairs as she walked passed them, knowing it was too early for Carol to be in the kitchen yet, and too late for the boys to be goofing around in the living room. More likely, the entire family--excluding herself, of course--would be upstairs watching TV or in their rooms. She blew out a sigh, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she walked into the kitchen to grab something to eat. She was heading out again soon anyway. Working two jobs required almost all her time, and she didn't mind. It would pay for her college tuition. Twisting around, she glanced out the window into the back garden, facing away from the streets and the rest of the neighborhood.
