Break up your tables vertically for a cascading load to appear more responsive (we use this technique on our front page).

If the tests don't load the server to the point where things break, you won't detect some of the problems, so be sure you load your server beyond your expected peak traffic.

The bowline is not only strong and secure but is easy to break loose later, even when pulled tight under a load.
