Visitors remembered it for its warmth and cosmopolitanism, gracious living and the scented wind that came off the sea through the palm trees.

Once out of the bus, though, I felt an instant chill; the sun gave only an illusion of warmth in a biting wind that threatened winter.

Over the past nearly two years, I still remember the teacher in that kind of wind brought us warmth.
