The author and British medical doctor Andrew Wakefield claimed to have found a link between the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and an autismlike disorder.
Currently 102 (53%) of 192 WHO member states include mumps in their routine childhood vaccination programmes, mostly as the combined measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Many were shaken by a claim, later debunked, that there was a link between autism and the MMRvaccine, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella.
