If a container isn't full, fill the gap with crumpled foil or non-stick paper.

Use a fine grain sandpaper to sand all the surfaces you want to stick paper to or paint over.

Take the glue invented in 1968 by 3M, which could stick paper onto a flat surface but wasn't strong enough to do so permanently.
