Field plot tests indicates that there are remarkable differences in the loss rates of spike, thousand grain weight and output among different wheat varieties or lines.

The grain shape, thousand kernel weight, volume weight and specific gravity of grey wheat, blue wheat, common purple wheat and hard purple wheat grown in Nanyang were determined in this study.

The major reason for the improved wheat yield was the increase in the number of grains per spike and the thousand-grain-weight.
