Spedding and Huyssen have made a simple modular aircraft in three configurations: a flying wing alone, then wings plus body, and then wings plus body and a tail.

"The small, stubby little tail has a much bigger effect than one might imagine because it's effectively tailoring the flow over the entire (plane) body," Spedding said.
