Is the engine small displacement or large?

In this paper, the assistant power system of hybrid electrical vehicle (HEV) was an engine with small displacement, which could charge the battery and directly drive the air-conditioning system.

The systems comprise two engine-driven, electrically controlled, variable displacement hydraulic pumps and four large and four small hydraulically controlled, variable displacement hydraulic motors.
