Marine port facilities generate air, water, and soil pollutants from cargo handling, and from vessel maintenance, fueling, and onshore tanks and storage facilities.

"Understanding the amount of pollutants in soil and snow is critical to maintaining the quality of alpine water sources," the scientists report.
