If it was a bearernote "if the note said I'll pay if it wasn't a unique object but just gold the note would say that this goldsmith will pay to the bearer so many ounces of gold."
But eventually you have this bearernote that you start passing around to spend to other people and they start to think of them as money and that's the origin of banking.
