I remembered the initial shock and numbness, the emptiness, the tears and my pain-filled body.

General stroke symptoms can include numbness or weakness on one side of the body, loss of speech, imbalance, trouble with speaking or speech loss, or a sudden, severe headache.

My own diagnosis is that the numbness had to overwhelm my body before it would let go of me, before I could let go of it.
