This is Messines in Belgium and the New Zealand soldier, identified from his metal shoulder tags, almost certainly died while attacking the town early on 7 June 1917.

Eleven years earlier and just a few miles from Messines, I filmed Belgian archaeologists as they recovered the remains of two British soldiers from WWI with a policeman in attendance.

It just so happens that as the dead soldier from WWI is being exhumed at Messines, some miles east - on the battlefield of Waterloo - another British soldier's body has been discovered by different Belgian archaeologists.
