Bis(p-hydroxybenzonic acid butanediolate)(BBHB)as mesogenicunit was prepared with methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, 1,4-butanediol and catalyst by melting transesterification.
Based on the liquid crystalline polymer theory, a kind of polyacrylate was synthesized by choosing biphenyl group as rigid nucleus of mesogenicunit and hexylidene as flexible spacing group.
The synthesis and the effect of the molecular structure on the liquid crystalline property were discussed when the mesogenicunit was grafted on the backbone of cellulose and its derivatives.
