There is more: a 2% increase in materials such as latex gloves and hairnets, a 5% increase in lab supplies for milktesting and an 8% increase in the chemicals used to clean the plant and equipment.
But the testing plan met with fierce protest from the dairy industry, which said that it could force farmers to needlessly dump millions of gallons of milk while they waited for test results.
Testing every milk tanker for antibiotics does not, however, ensure that no antibiotics from normal farm animal health practices reach consumers through milk.
