In this paper, an abstract mixed problem of a class parabolic differential equations is generalized from the dam body temperature during the stratified placement of concrete dam.

The failure process of the model was simulated by RFPA2D software. Simulation results show three failure modes of gravity dam, such as surficial slide, deep slide and mixed slide.

The cushion layer for the dam is constructed with the material prepared mainly with natural sandy gravel and mixed with proper amount of pebble and coarse sand.
