Objective To analyze the causes of reoperations due to portal hypertension and to develop strategies to reduce reoperations in advancedschistosomiasis.

Results There were 589 surgical eases of advancedschistosomiasis with portal hypertension, in which 23 cases (3.9%) had a recent history of reoperations.
